SkillStorm, a company training and deploying teams of highly specialized domestic tech talent to commercial and federal organizations, announced the appointment of Cordell Carter and Emily Murphy to their Advisory Board. Their expertise will help guide SkillStorm through a period of rapid growth and accelerate key initiatives to provide equitable access to upskilling and IT apprenticeship opportunities for veterans and historically underserved communities.
Carter is internationally recognized for his cross-sector successes in philanthropy, education and technology. He is currently managing principal of Expectant Advisory, an equity-focused consulting collaborative and the executive director of the Aspen Institute Socrates Program, a global education forum for leaders. Through his expertise, Carter will advise SkillStorm on strategies to expand opportunities to more underserved talent, with a strategic focus on SkillStorm’s NexGen, IT Apprenticeship and Accelerator Programs.
Carter said, “I am focused on building a society and organizational cultures where everyone belongs and has equitable opportunities to thrive. One cannot tell a person they belong; one has to show them a path to thriving. SkillStorm is in the “thriving” business as they are expanding career opportunity for thousands of underserved and underprepared communities. I am honored to join them in this effort.”
Murphy is a leading expert in government contracting and the business of government. She brings more than 20 years’ experience in the federal sector and has held multiple leadership roles in the federal government. Most recently, Murphy served as Administrator for the U.S. General Services Administration from 2017 to 2021, where she led a workforce of more than 11,000 federal employees and oversaw $75 billion in annual contracts. Murphy will leverage her extensive experience to help advise SkillStorm on their technology talent programs serving the government marketplace.
“I’m honored to serve on the SkillStorm Advisory Board as we accelerate access to competitive careers in technology,” said Murphy. “I’m most looking forward to supporting our transitioning service members, veterans, and their families, along with individuals from communities who are historically underrepresented in federal IT roles, as we ensure they have opportunities for rewarding technology jobs.”
CEO Justin Vianello, “We are excited to have Emily and Cordell join our advisory board to guide us through a period of rapid growth for SkillStorm. Emily and Cordell believe in our purpose of accelerating opportunity for all, and their vast experience in government contracting, technology, education and philanthropy will be invaluable to the organization.”
