Windstream, a leading provider of advanced network communications and
technology solutions, today announced the completion of a major
broadband upgrade for north Georgians served by the company’s cable TV
network. About 71,000 consumers in north Georgia now have access to 300
megabits per second (Mbps) high-speed Kinetic Internet.
Windstream began delivering broadband over its cable TV network for the
first time in 2017 with speeds up to 100 Mbps.
“With this upgrade, we are delivering on our promise to bring faster
speeds to north Georgia customers served by our cable TV network,” said
J. Berkshire, president of Windstream operations in Georgia.
In fact, Windstream is over-delivering on the
promise it made last year to boost Internet speeds for 67,000
households, exceeding that goal by over 4,000 homes while finishing the
work faster than expected.
Windstream’s cable TV network serves Dahlonega, Blairsville,
Clarkesville, Cleveland, Commerce, Cornelia, Dawsonville, Helen,
Hiawassee, Homer, Jefferson, Nicholson and Young Harris. Additionally,
upgrades were made in Hayesville, N.C.
The newly available bandwidth comes at a time when more north Georgians
are employing smart speakers and appliances, Internet-connected home
security, and multiple streaming services on more screens. With 300 Mbps
Kinetic Internet, a family can download songs in as little as two
seconds, download HD movies in minutes or stream shows in HD on multiple
screens simultaneously.
“Windstream is committed to bringing best-in-class Internet and
entertainment services to our customers in communities across all of
Georgia,” Berkshire said. “That’s why we’re using a variety of
technologies – software enhancements, fiber expansion that includes
fiber to the premise and shorter loop lengths and, increasingly, fixed
wireless – to meet customer demand for faster broadband speeds.”
