K Health, the data-driven digital healthcare company bringing affordable, personalized care to millions of adults and children, announced that Dr. Jennifer M. Peña has joined as its first-ever Chief Medical Officer.
In this role, Dr. Peña will drive K Health’s clinical strategy, expand its remote medical practice, and help health systems incorporate virtual care via K Health’s proprietary AI. She will lead a team of over 350 clinicians across primary care, mental health, women’s health, men’s health, and pediatric specialties, with the goal of improving process and outcomes for patients.
“With more and more people turning to K Health, now is the time to bring on a medical leader who gets our vision to change the healthcare system and knows how to scale our virtual Primary Care offering,” said Allon Bloch, K Health CEO and co-founder. “Dr. Peña’s impressive experience in many different telehealth and traditional medical settings will help us deliver faster and smarter care, and we’re lucky to have her on board.”
Born and raised in Puerto Rico, Dr. Peña is an Army veteran with over 14 years of clinical experience, including as a physician in the White House Medical Unit under both the Obama and Trump administrations. She received her undergraduate degree from Yale University in 2004 and her medical degree from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine in 2008. She is board-certified in internal medicine and holds an appointment as Assistant Professor of Medical Education for the University of Virginia School of Medicine. She is a fellow of the American College of Physicians (ACP), a member of the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee of the ACP’s Virginia Chapter, and a member of the American Telemedicine Association’s Advisory Group to Eliminate Healthcare Disparities and Inequalities.
“Medicine is constantly changing and the K Health technology is giving everyone access to truly up-to-date information, which means better patient outcomes and the elimination of billions of dollars in wasted medical costs,” said Dr. Peña. “Remote clinical care is so much more than the method of connecting with patients, it is an overall experience and development of a relationship, and I want everyone in our country to see how K Health technology can drive better healthcare that we all deserve.”
Dr. Peña’s latest role was Chief Medical Officer at healthcare company Nurx. Prior to that she was the Medical Director at Oscar Medical Group and also on the frontlines of the COVID relief effort.
