Brother widens channels for AutoID with new unit head

Brother UK has appointed Ged Cairns to lead a newly formed business unit focused on delivering additional AutoID solutions for the market.

His appointment comes as the business formalises its range of AutoID services, designed to support end-users with barcode printing and mobile point of sale (mPOS).

Working alongside Brother’s established mobile print and labelling teams, Cairns will help develop new systems for existing and new channel partners, said Brother. The new solutions will be designed to support customers in sectors including retail and logistics, alongside businesses in other markets with large field sales functions.

Cairns (pictured) has over 30 years’ experience in the AutoID industry, with previous roles at Psion Teklogix and Datamax-O’Neil.

He joins Brother from Honeywell, where he was EMEA sales manager and responsible for day-to-day sales of thermal print products across the region, supporting relationships with clients including Nestle and Coca-Cola HBC.

Brother’s portfolio of mobile print products includes its PJ-700 series, which features one of the smallest thermal A4 mobile printers on the market, as well as its labelling solutions which are used across a range of sectors including healthcare, retail and logistics.

Cairns, head of AutoID solutions at Brother UK, said: “Brother and its partners are in a perfect position to capitalise on the growing AutoID services market, with an excellent range of mobile solutions and a significant share of markets like retail, logistics, healthcare and B2B-focused industries.

“Over the coming months we’ll be working with new and existing channel partners to build out our portfolio of AutoID solutions for end customers.”

Andy Johnson, head of product management at Brother UK, said: “Ged has strong expertise and experience in this area and will be a fantastic asset to us as we look to better establish our AutoID offering, and open up new revenue opportunities for our partners.”
