METISfiles Maps Out The UK Cloudscape Of Services

Analyst firm The METISfiles has released its first UK Public Cloudscape which highlights who’s who in the British SaaS, PaaS, and IaaS provider ecosystem.

It is often difficult to find all of the options available when choosing a service supplier and this provides a good starting point. The analysis not only acts as a useful resource for identifying candidates but also shows which sectors are best served and could be a boon if European Commission regulations tighten up on  using local suppliers within the EU boundaries.

The Cloudscape features 191 cloud providers of which 16 percent are active in more than one segment or category, resulting in a total of 224 entries. A digital copy of the UK Cloudscape can be downloaded at the METISfiles website.

According to the research, aross the UK SaaS is the most popular cloud segment with 71 percent of entries, IaaS accounts for the next 25 percent leaving only four percent offering PaaS services.

The company wants to ensure that the second version of the Cloudscape is as comprehensive as possible and any service supplier that METISfiles has missed can contact the research team through the company’s website.

METISfiles analyst Pim Bilderbeek broke down the SaaS sector. Communications was by far the largest category ahead of CRM, and Online Workspace was third largest. Some segments did not register very well with only one or two specialists. Classed as Other, this division included areas such as Time Management, Document Management and Risk Management.

“We expect IaaS, Online Workspace and Communication offerings to merge into a broader infrastructure category in the future. We also expect the number of UK cloud providers to grow as an increasing number of businesses is embracing public cloud solutions,” Bilderbeek said.
