It seems Wolfgang Ebermann is paving the way for his new post as Insight’s new EMEA president by clearing out the boardroom. Since taking over from outgoing EMEA boss Stuart Fenton, he has seen five top employees leave the company.
Ebermann was brought in following sentence decision to leave the company and after Insight conceded its EMEA results last quarter, which showed a loss of $3.8 million (£2.38m) on sales in the third quarter, was a disappointment.
Earlier this month, sales director Tony Brooker, IT services director Tom Nesbit, vice president of global sales Frank Bitoun, vice president for EMEA marketing Ashley Gatehouse, and UK enterprise sales director Gary Butters all left the company, which said they would not be replaced.
The company has not made an official statement why the executives left but speculation surrounds its recent restructuring of commission payments. It is known that staff awards have been focused on new business and growing the client portfolio instead of renewals. Microsoft’s recent LAR rebate changes had also affected Insight, leaving it “out-of-pocket” and causing the company to reduce its staff’s rewards accordingly.
There have been unconfirmed rumours of further redundancies at Insight, but its vice president for human resources Peter Richardson said that, though this can never be ruled out, there are no immediate plans for pan-European job losses.
Richardson emphasised that staff retention is a key goal and that the stagnation of the company over the past year or so has meant that the company must concentrate on generating new business, and offering new technologies and products.
