C4L Makes Light Work Of Enfield DC To London Internet Exchange Link

UK data centre, colocation and connection service provider Connexions for London (C4L) has lit up some of Geo Networks’ dark fibre in an agreement for the provision of a high speed network between its North London data centre and the Docklands internet exchange.

This enables C4L to offer 1-100 Gigabits per second (Gbs) links for its customers’ business critical applications.

High-speed drain

The data centre is housed in the Virtus facility in Enfield which became a Geo connection point in March 2012. This was installed as an open access connectivity point to Geo’s 3,000 kilometre nationwide backbone for customers of Virtus.

C4L will use Geo’s 19km network of fibre, which, for the most part, runs through London’s sewer system, to form a link with the London metropolitan area. This will give 4CL customers the kind of fast, secure and scalable transport infrastructure they demand, claimed the company. It also offers redundancy for reliability.

Simon Mewett, CEO at C4L, said, “Our vision is to be a completely customer-orientated UK colocation provider, so we are always striving to innovate and stay at the forefront of our industry. By using Geo’s dedicated fibre infrastructure as a backbone for our intra-DC connectivity services we aim to maximise uptime and guarantee the highest level of service excellence.”

The Enfield centre is one of over 100 UK data centres to which 4CL has access, including the Telehouse provision which houses the Docklands exchange. In addition, the company has its own data centre on the south coast and a 1-100Gbs fibre optic network to link numerous data centres privately using DWDM (Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing). The company also has more than 300 sites available globally.

Annette Murphy, business development manager at Geo, said, “As customers become more demanding, and organisations more complex, the right network infrastructure is needed to deliver the required performance and security. Having ownership of its own dedicated fibre backbone network allows C4L to easily scale bandwidth to users’ requirements managing both current and future needs.”
