Kroll Ontrack has released version 7.0 of its PowerControls software to help administrators to upgrade their systems to 2013 releases of Microsoft’s Exchange Server and SharePoint Server.
Traditionally, Ontrack PowerControls is used to search, recover and restore the files used by the Microsoft products, but Kroll stressed it is the updated data exporting feature that differentiates version 7.0. This allows current settings from earlier installations to be moved to the 2013 environments.
As companies deploy Exchange and SharePoint , IT departments must ensure various policies, procedures and systems can be supported in the latest platform versions. Kroll said that its new software ensures these requirements for migration to Exchange and SharePoint are met.
The software can be used to copy existing mailboxes or content to the new 2013 servers to offer businesses a migration path that does not require an old server and new server to be online simultaneously. This eliminates the work required to get an old server prepared for co-existing with Exchange and SharePoint 2013, the company said.
On occasion, the legal representatives of a business may request information that needs to be identified, retrieved, and isolated – both from backups and from live environments – without disrupting normal operations. Ontrack PowerControls 7.0 addresses the technical complexities associated with data collection through an easy-to-use interface, intelligent search, and the ability to work directly with backups.
When the relevant data has been located and identified, administrators can use the software to export data in industry standard formats while preserving any associated metadata. The information can then be imported into e-disclosure platforms for deeper downstream analysis and review.
“With a migration path to the newest Exchange and SharePoint versions, coupled with complete support for collections, Ontrack PowerControls 7.0 is a comprehensive and forensically sound tool for IT and legal,” said Jim Reinert, vice president of product development at Kroll Ontrack.
“From recovery and restoration to migration, consolidation and collection, Kroll Ontrack is committed to delivering a robust, integrated and comprehensive tool that manages IT and legal tasks in half the time when compared to traditional methods or other solutions,” he added.
