Data Centres Need To Do A Double-Take On Management
Vision Solution’s release of Double-Take 7.0 offers the channel to make more of data centre workloads
Management software vendor Vision Solutions has released Double-Take 7.0 which enables VARs and service providers to offer agentless and agent-based virtual server protection.
One analyst claimed there could be a willing market for the package. “Many enterprises need a way to migrate data, applications, even entire environments seamlessly between all three as their needs change,” said Ashish Nadkarni, research director for storage systems at IDC. “Double-Take is the first product to enable this level of anything-to-anything migration.”
Sensible deployments
The relevance for service providers is that it allows them to place workloads where they make the most sense while protecting them against fatal business interruptions and data loss.More than half of data centre workloads are now virtualised, according to IDC’s Worldwide Storage Software 2012-2016 Forecast.
“It solves a growing challenge in businesses of all sizes,“ said Nadkarni.
Double-Take 7.0 provides high availability, disaster recovery and migration for VMware, Microsoft Windows Server, and Linux. Ian Masters, sales director at Vision promised that selling disaster recovery products and services continues to be a good opportunity for resellers but there are hurdles that have to be overcome.
“The overall costs involved in a full recovery can be significant, particularly if there are multiple different IT platforms in place that all are being protected with different tools at present,” he said. “Helping organisations consolidate their DR strategies and simplify them is a good service that can be coupled with consulting around how best to protect physical, virtual and cloud-based workloads.”
