Selcoms WIPS Up A Reseller Channel For AirTight Wireless Cloud
Never mind the Wids or Wips it’s the quality, argues Selcoms distributor of secure cloud Wi-Fi
Selcoms has been signed as UK distributor for cloud Wi-Fi vendor AirTight Networks and has launched a scheme to sign UK and Eire partners.
AirTight claims that growing numbers of Wi-Fi networks and the bring your own device (Byod) trend have lured thousands of wireless device users into grave danger. In response it has launched its Wireless Intrusion Protection System (Wips) in a bid to create a secure wireless environment. The vendor claims that unlike previous reactive systems, such as Wireless Intrusion Detection Systems (Wids), the Wips system anticipates danger before it happens, using its patented ‘marker packet’ technology.

The deal takes distributor Selcoms into new territory, which it hopes to help its reseller partners to explore, said sales and marketing director Chris Jennings. The cloud, Wi-Fi and network security will combine to open new markets for its resellers, he claimed.
“The flexible product range fits us and our resellers perfectly,” said Jenkins. “VARs can now tender a full Cloud Wi-Fi solution or integrate the Wips protection to an existing wireless network.”
Selcoms won the distribution contract because it saw the future of Wi-Fi, argued Simon Hollister, a director at AirTight Networks. “They aren’t afraid to bring the subject of security to the table when other vendors try to dismiss it,” said Hollister, “but that’s because other vendors can’t address it.”
The deal was a no brainer after AirTight was rated by Gartner as the recognised leader in this sector, said Hollister. “What’s the point in having good coverage, capacity and smart features on your Wi-Fi if it’s inherently insecure and a threat to your brand?” he commented.
Selcoms now claims to be the largest Ruckus Wireless distributor in EMEA and said its network of specialist wireless VARs can compliment the Ruckus portfolio with Airtght’s cloud-managed Wips overlay system. The combination will create a full Wi-Fi/WIPS wireless offering.
The product will be launched through the channel with a series of technical sales seminars and installation workshops at Selcoms’ Oxfordshire training centre.
