Midlands Microsoft reseller Netmetix has been using itself as a guinea pig so that it can understand what are the sorts of problems that it will have selling Windows 8 to businesses.
According to Equities, Netmetix worked out that the new operating system might be a hard sell in tough economic times and rolled out the Beta version to its offices to try it out first.
Greig Schofield, Business Development Manager says said that businesses were unsure whether or not take the step up to the new Windows 8 operating system.
By making the most of its access to Windows 8 BETA, Netmetix was able to come up with some fairly strong selling points.
Schofield said that Windows 8 offered greater flexibility and productivity for business.
The experiment paid off and days after the Windows 8 launch he upgraded 35 desktops at an aviation company in Bournemouth.
Greig Schofield, Business Development Manager said that the best selling point is that Windows 8 will run on the same hardware as Windows 7 or Vista, which means there is no capital outlay needed for any hardware.
Microsoft was also shipping with a host of new features to support business users and windows integrated security (AV/firewall/Malware) and general slicker processes regarding desktop maintenance were a compelling reason for organisations due to the obvious cost savings.
He said that traditionally businesses were conservative about moving to a new version of Windows, normally waiting for the first service pack. However he advised his customers who insisted on going for Windows 7 to make sure there were software assurances in place that guarantee the right to a free or minimal cost upgrade.
