Oracle has announced that it is to buy network virtualisation technology firm Xsigo Systems.
Oracle said the acquisition will help its customers increase application performance while reducing costs by delivering compute, storage and network resources.
It added that the technology complemented Oracle’s software, server, storage, and network product portfolio, and the combination of the two would help customers deliver virtualisation capabilities for cloud environments as well as allow customers to flexibly connect any server to any network and storage.
Although terms of the agreement were not disclosed, John Fowler, Oracle executive vice president of systems said: “The proliferation of virtualised servers in the last few years has made the virtualisation of the supporting network connections essential.”
“With Xsigo, customers can reduce the complexity and simplify management of their clouds by delivering compute, storage and network resources that can be dynamically reallocated on-demand.”
Lloyd Carney, Xsigo CEO, said: “Customers are focused on reducing costs and improving utilisation of their network.
“Virtualisation of these resources allows customers to scale compute and storage for their public and private clouds while matching network capacity as demand dictates.”
