Oracle has unveiled what it has described as the “most comprehensive Cloud on the planet Earth”.
CEO Larry Ellison has announced in hyperbolic fashion that the firm has arrived with its cloud offerings, which, naturally, trump anything else out there at the moment.
Oracle is rather late to the cloud party, but Ellison says that after ploughing billions of dollars into development and “seven years of relentless engineering”, it is now finally ready to offer its wide range of services and systems through the cloud.
As well as enabling access to the many facets of Oracle’s through subscription, such as Java, database, and analytics services, Oracle will also launch a social network system.
This will involve a social marketing service, enabling enterprises to connect directly with customers to provide commerce, social marketing and analysis. Oracle also unveiled its acquisition of social platform Collective Intellect earlier this week.
Ellison also took time to highlight the weak spots in other cloud offerings claiming that most cloud vendors have only “niche assets” and don’t have necessary platforms to extend.
Oracle says that it has already begun working with select partners such as systems integrators and independent software vendors on its cloud services.
