Business and technology services company Logica claims it has drastically reduced its printing output using HP’s Managed Print Services.
Logica will continue to use HP to reduce its full carbon footprint by as high as 50 percent by 2020, by controlling print emissions. Although those email signatures that urge a little thought before printing off emails may be enough for most small offices, Logica looks after 6,000 print users over 23 UK locations – so cutting down print emissions makes up a large chunk of Logica’s green plans, it says.
Managed Print Services, according to Logica, drastically reduced the size of its printer fleet by doing away with personal printers and bringing in multifunction printers for printing, copying, scanning, and faxing on a single device. In 2006, Logica had 16 million prints, and this was brought down to 9.7 million in 2011, or by 65 percent.
In 2006, Logica had paper carbon emissions of 407 tonnes, which has been reduced to 133 tonnes in 2011. Which is still a fair amount of printing. Logica says it reached a 32 percent overall reduction in energy usage for document printing.
Logica’s UK head of health, safety, and environment, Arlette Anderson, said the company still has “a long way to go” but believes that it will achieve the 50 percent target. Of course, that will be up to CGI Group now.
